Name: Adderstrike
Prefix Meaning: He had a dark brown pelt as a kitten.
Suffix Meaning: He is known for his quick and accurate strike, like that of an adder.
Age: 17 moons
Rank: Warrior
Clan: Moonclan
Description: Adderstrike is a very average-looking cat, to be honest, with no major features standing out. His fur is short and soft, and of a chocolate brown color. As a kitten, it used to be a much darker brown, but lightened up a little with age. He has a pretty athletic build, and slightly longer-than-typical legs, which help in his hunting endeavors. It also helps that he has a fairly light bone structure and a lot of lean muscle tissue, keeping him quick on his feet and giving him an unusual advantage in such things as... say... jumping contests. Not much else.
On the smaller side, as far as toms go, Adderstrike really isn't made for fighting. His paws are small, his claws are small, even his teeth are relatively tiny. Also, that lean muscle tissue talked about earlier? It leaves him pretty weak when going up against brute strength. But what he lacks in matter, he makes up for in mind, being a rather clever cat and all. In fact, he's so clever that he can usually pick out just point in the fight where he can make an almost-clean getaway! Oh no, he's not a fighter at all.
Adderstrike walks differently than most cats. Since his front paws are almost always twitching with anticipation over something, he tends to fling them out in front of him with a flicking motion at each step. Only when he's completely calm or comfortable can he resist that urge, and really, that isn't often. When he's especially antsy, his ears start twitching, too. All these things really give away his emotions quite well.
Personality: Fiercely loyal and honest, Adderstrike is the epitome of Moonclan in all things except one: Bravery. That's the biggest dilemma in his life. He wants so badly to be the "perfect" Moonclan warrior, and to represent it in everything he does, but at his heart, he's nothing more than a coward. He's afraid of Deathclan, he's afraid of cats who openly want power, he's afraid of messing up in front of she-cats, he's afraid of someday being a horrible father, but most of all, he's afraid of fighting and getting hurt. He values life too much to blindly go and end it, even as he swears he'd do anything for his clan. He's not a liar, either, he truly believes he'd do anything! But when the time comes, fear just grips his heart too strongly.
This poor guy is also very simple-minded, taking everything that superiors tell him at face value, and never imagining there could be more to life than being a loyal warrior, a father, and ultimately a wise and caring elder. He doesn't aspire to be deputy or leader someday, but rather to raise and take care of a family. To that end, he's a perfect gentleman, believing it the duty of the tom to make sure the she-cats are taken care of properly, and protected to the end. And now that he's a warrior, and that part of his dream has been realized, he's been devoting more and more of his time to finding a mate.
Adderstrike believes firmly in taking time out of life to go and think over problems, hating to do so while being faced with everyday life. Because of that, he has a tendency to be missing from camp for long periods of the day when unfortunate circumstances turn up. He sometimes goes wandering, but more often he'll go hunting, honing his sloppy-stalk-and-strike-quickly technique until his mind clears and resolves whatever problem he has. He doesn't like to talk to other cats about his problem, because he thinks that if a tom shares his problems, it is a sign of complete weakness, and he can't stand being seen as that.
History: Adderstrike was born to a large litter, all of which were bigger and rowdier than he. Not only that, but almost all of his siblings were toms, who grew up to prefer the fighting aspect of being warriors. Unfortunately, that led two of his brothers to very early deaths, and so soon after being granted their warrior titles that it only further pushed the smaller, shyer kit's desires away from fighting. His last brother, then, was the pride of his mother, in that he managed to live through those first few moons of warrior-dom, and show that he was a very capable member of Moonclan. His mother had often asked why little Adderpaw couldn't be more like his older brother (the one that was still alive) and hurry up and become a warrior already, but being so shy, the little tom would stay mute as he listened to his mother go on and on.
You see, Adderstrike was only recently given his warrior name. He remained an apprentice for an inordinate amount of time, due to his long-time inability to pass the required fighting section. He excelled in the hunting department, catching piece of prey after piece of prey, and whenever asked, he would plead with his mentor to let them go out and work on hunting. Fighting was just too stressful for him, and in the end he only got past it through realizing that neither his mentor nor the leader of the clan intended to hurt him. They weren't going to kill him! He didn't have any reason to fear fighting with these cats! With that in mind, he was finally ready to become a warrior. Of course, he name came from his hunting abilities, though, as no one would be able to argue that he was a praise-worthy fighter.
At the dawn of life as warrior, he enjoyed it very much, going about and doing what warriors typically do. But then, because doing the same old thing again and again gets tiresome, especially for a young cat, he realized that he wanted something more. He desperately wanted an apprentice to train and pass on all of his own knowledge to. His mother had warned him that he would never be given an apprentice if he could hardly ditch the "paw" suffix himself. But it was something he wanted so badly that whenever he was speaking to a cat who had any sort of direction over apprentices, he started the habit of dropping a little hint that he wanted one himself, and that he would be a very capable mentor if only given a chance. If only, he figured, he could get an apprentice and a mate, life would be complete and perfect.
